BAR OPS CHRONICLES | Atty. Chan

TO THE BARRISTERS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN PHILIPPINES

Future brethren in the profession:

On its face, an archery contest seems like an unlikely paragon of calm. It involves the use of bows and arrows to hit specified targets at a distance. But the simple act of shooting an arrow and hitting the mark is muddled by the sometimes the loud winds, one’s own heartbeat, and the jeers and cheers of the spectators.

And therein lies the lesson. Hitting the center of a small, wooden target 140 meters away doesn’t only require physical prowess, technical ability and clear eyesight. It also demands the ability to shut out even the jeering and heckling of adversaries.

Stay calm. Block out all your distractions. The Bar Examination only involves you and the test paper and no one else. No one else can ever take the exam for you.
